Riding a motorcycle is one of the most enjoyable, exhilarating, and freeing experiences on the planet. It is an incredible way to enjoy the beauty of our great nation. Unfortunately, riding a motorcycle can also be dangerous. A rider can be the most skilled driver on the road, but they cannot account for everyone else. By following a few riding tips, everyone can end up a little safer out there on the road.

Wear Protective Gear

This is the most important tip we can give you. It is of absolute importance that you wear the proper riding gear. This starts with a helmet. Helmets save lives, there is no debating it. Find one that you find comfortable, and that fits your riding style, and never leave home without it. Wearing long sleeves is good, but ideally should have a reinforced jacket and pants. Road rashes is extremely painful, and could even be light threatening. Wearing over-the-ankle footwear is the best way to protect yourself from a broken or twisted ankle in the event of an accident.

Drive Defensively

The best way to stay safe, is to avoid accidents all together! Studies have shown that in accidents involving a motorcycle and a car, the driver of the car is at fault over 60 percent of the time. You cannot control other drivers on the road. You can only control yourself. Keep an eye out for other cars and always clearly signal your intentions. Do not make rash or abrupt maneuvers. Watch for road hazardous and avoid driving at excessive speeds. You want to give yourself a chance to react if something bad does happen out on the road.
